Official Rockbridge Regional Jail Roster
Rockbridge County does not have a separate county-only jail roster. The local custody facility is Rockbridge Regional Jail, a regional jail at 258 Greenhouse Road in Lexington that serves Rockbridge County, the City of Lexington, the City of Buena Vista, and towns within the service area. County materials describe governance through the Rockbridge Area Regional Jail Commission. The commission manages overall jail operations and hires the superintendent who handles daily operations, while Sheriff Tony McFaddin sits on the commission under Virginia Code.
The official roster path begins on the Rockbridge Regional Jail homepage and continues through the Inmate Roster page. That page embeds a Public Safety Cloud/JailTracker app for Rockbridge Regional Jail. The direct app URL identifies the facility as Rockbridge_Regional_VA, but the app is browser-rendered. Static source did not expose a reliable list of search fields, current-release tabs, update timing, or sample inmate-profile fields, so those details should be checked in the live app at search time.
The roster is the starting point for people currently held at Rockbridge Regional Jail. It is not the primary tool for a person already transferred to the Virginia Department of Corrections, a federal Bureau of Prisons inmate, or an immigration detainee. It also should not be treated as the final court record. Booking charges and court-filed charges can diverge as magistrate review, prosecutor screening, indictments, amendments, dismissals, or bond orders occur after jail intake.
How to Search When the App Loads
The official roster screenshot comes from the jail's public Inmate Roster page at rockbridgeregionaljailvirginia.com/Inmate_Roster.html. It shows the local page that frames the Public Safety Cloud/JailTracker roster for Rockbridge Regional Jail.
Because the roster runs as a JavaScript application, allow the embedded app to finish loading before deciding that no record exists. If it stalls, use a current browser. The direct app shell warns that Internet Explorer is not supported and points users toward modern browsers such as Edge, Firefox, Brave, Chrome, Opera, or Safari.
- Open the jail homepage and choose Inmate Roster, or open the official Inmate Roster page directly.
- Wait for the Public Safety Cloud/JailTracker interface to render inside the page.
- Use the search controls that are visible in the live app. The research did not verify last-name, first-name, booking-number, or date-of-birth fields in static source, so do not assume a field exists until it appears on screen.
- Open any matching profile and compare the name, booking information, charge status, and facility context with other known facts.
- If the app does not return the person, call Rockbridge Regional Jail at 540-464-1188 before assuming the person is not in custody.
Rockbridge Roster Search Fields
The public roster exists, but the rendered search form could not be inventoried from static HTML. That matters because many jail sites show familiar name or booking fields only after the app loads. For Rockbridge County inmate records, the safe description is that the official app is facility-specific and browser-rendered, with the exact visible fields to be verified in the live roster.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visible roster fields | JavaScript/Blazor rendered | Unspecified | Field labels were not visible in static source. Use only the fields shown after the Public Safety Cloud app loads. |
| Buttons | JavaScript/Blazor rendered | Unspecified | Button labels were not exposed in static inspection. |
| Facility | Embedded in URL | Not user-entered | The direct app URL contains Rockbridge_Regional_VA, indicating a facility-specific roster. |
A separate JailCanteen resident lookup exists for commissary ordering, but it is not the same as the official custody roster. The JailCanteen FAQ says registered users select the facility, enter a resident's last name or ID number, and click Search. That helps with commissary ordering after custody is known. It should not replace the jail roster or a phone confirmation when the question is whether someone is held.
What a Rockbridge Inmate Record May Show
The Rockbridge Regional Jail roster confirms the presence of a public JailTracker-style app, but no sample inmate profile was available in the captured static source. For that reason, treat any field list as a checklist to review in the live record, not as a promise that the Rockbridge public profile always displays every item.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Roster app | Public Safety Cloud/JailTracker app for Rockbridge Regional Jail. |
| Facility identifier | The direct roster URL includes Rockbridge_Regional_VA. |
| Name | Not visible in static source. Verify in the rendered app and compare spelling carefully. |
| Booking number or date | Not visible in static source. Check the live roster before relying on a booking timeline. |
| Mugshot | Not confirmed in static source. Virginia law provides a FOIA path for adult arrestee intake photographs, subject to statutory limits. |
| Charges | Not visible in static source. Verify formal filed charges through Virginia Courts when the case moves beyond booking. |
| Bond | Not visible in static source. Bond orders are set by a magistrate, judicial officer, or court and may change faster than a roster display. |
| Housing or release status | Not visible in static source. Use the jail phone line or VINELink when status timing matters. |
When the Roster Does Not Find Someone
A failed online search can mean several different things: the person has not finished intake, the app has not updated, the name is misspelled, the person was released, the person is in another county or city process, or the case belongs in a state, federal, or immigration system. Rockbridge County's local access chain starts with the jail roster, then moves to direct confirmation and public-records request channels.
- County/regional jail roster: Use the official Rockbridge Regional Jail roster for current local custody.
- Phone confirmation: Call Rockbridge Regional Jail at 540-464-1188. For sheriff-office routing, use the administrative office at 540-463-7329 or dispatch at 540-463-7328.
- In person: The jail and sheriff complex is at 258 Greenhouse Road, Lexington, VA 24450. Confirm lobby access, public counter hours, and visitor rules before traveling.
- Public records: Rockbridge County names Heidi Hoke as county FOIA Officer, 540-463-1468, hhoke@rockbridgecountyva.gov. The sheriff staff directory also lists records clerk Rachel Blankenship at 540-462-5381.
- Victim notification: Use VINELink for custody and release notifications where available.
- Mobile app: No official sheriff or jail mobile app with an inmate roster or warrant lookup was verified in the inspected official sources.
County Jail, VADOC, BOP, and ICE
The most common search mistake is using the right name in the wrong custody system. Rockbridge Regional Jail covers adult local and regional jail custody for Rockbridge County, Lexington, Buena Vista, and nearby towns in the regional service area. Sentenced prisoners who have moved into state prison custody belong in the Virginia Department of Corrections inmate and supervisee locator, not the local jail roster. The VADOC locator can search by first and/or last name or DOC ID number, and VADOC states its locator is updated daily but may be inaccurate or outdated.
The VADOC locator screenshot is from the official state locator at vadoc.virginia.gov/general-public/inmate-and-supervisee-locator/. Use it after a Rockbridge County case results in state-prison custody or supervision.
No VADOC prison, Bureau of Prisons facility, or ICE detention center was found inside Rockbridge County in the official facility lists reviewed. That does not eliminate those systems. It only means the lookup moves away from the Rockbridge roster when the custody authority changes.
| Custody Question | Where to Look | Rockbridge-Specific Note |
|---|---|---|
| Current local jail custody | Rockbridge Regional Jail roster | Covers the regional jail serving Rockbridge County, Lexington, Buena Vista, and towns within the service area. |
| Sentenced state prisoner or supervisee | VADOC locator | Use after transfer to VADOC custody or for state supervision records. |
| Federal sentenced inmate | BOP inmate locator | BOP is not for ordinary local jail detainees on state charges. |
| Immigration detainee | ICE Online Detainee Locator System | Searches by A-Number and country of birth or biographical information. |
| Custody or release alerts | VINELink | Useful when roster timing is uncertain or notification is the real goal. |
Rockbridge County Jail Facility
The local detention facility list has one facility: Rockbridge Regional Jail. The research did not locate a separate official Lexington city jail, Buena Vista city jail, state prison, BOP prison, or ICE detention center inside Rockbridge County. Police holding rooms, if any, are short-term law-enforcement spaces rather than public roster facilities.

Booking and Intake Pathway
Rockbridge-specific booking-process text was not published in the accessible jail pages, so the local pathway must be read together with Virginia arrest and bail law. Arrests by sheriff deputies, city police, Virginia State Police, campus police, or another agency may lead first to a magistrate or judicial officer. Under Virginia Code section 19.2-80, a person arrested under a warrant or capias is brought before a judicial officer for a bail hearing or commitment decision. Section 19.2-82 separately addresses arrest without a warrant and presentation before a magistrate or issuing authority.
If release is denied, bond is not posted, a hold exists, or a jail sentence is imposed, the person may be committed to Rockbridge Regional Jail. Intake creates identity, property, medical or security screening, and booking records. The official roster may update after processing, but no published update interval was located. Court records then develop separately, especially in General District Court for many misdemeanors and preliminary felony proceedings and in Circuit Court for felony indictments, felony trials, appeals, and other matters.
Visitation, Phones, and Mail
The official jail homepage links to HomeWAV for video visitation, PayTel for inmate telephone service, and JailCanteen/Oasis for commissary. It did not publish crawlable visitation schedule tables, mail-address formatting, in-person visiting hours, dress rules, visitor-list procedures, child-visitor rules, or attorney visiting procedures in the inspected HTML. Those details should be confirmed with Rockbridge Regional Jail before travel or payment.
| Channel | Vendor or Office | Published Detail | What to Confirm |

| Video visitation | HomeWAV | Linked from the official jail homepage. | Registration, rates, scheduling, visit length, and approved devices. |
| In-person visitation | Rockbridge Regional Jail | No crawlable schedule located. | ID rules, visitor list, minors, dress code, lockers, and public entrance. |
| Attorney visits | Rockbridge Regional Jail | No crawlable schedule located. | Professional access procedures and appointment requirements. |

JailCanteen Resident Search and Funds
JailCanteen/Oasis is linked from the official Rockbridge Regional Jail homepage for commissary ordering. The JailCanteen FAQ says users register with first name, last name, email address, and password, confirm the account by email, sign in, select the facility, enter the resident's last name or ID number, and click Search. Orders can be placed Monday 12:00 AM through Sunday 11:59 PM, with Sunday 11:59 PM as the weekly cutoff, and orders are delivered once per week.
The FAQ also says users can submit multiple orders and order for multiple residents or facilities. For funds, the JailCanteen FAQ directs users to JailATM.com and states that Oasis/JailCanteen is not affiliated with JailATM services. Cancellations go through support@jailcanteen.com, but requests received after 4:00 PM Friday are not guaranteed. Missing-item refund requests have a 45-day window, and the FAQ says refunds may take up to six weeks to process.
Note: Confirm current custody with Rockbridge Regional Jail before sending money, scheduling a visit, or placing a commissary order.
Requesting Booking Records Under Virginia FOIA
Virginia FOIA is the fallback when the online roster does not answer a records question. Code of Virginia section 2.2-3704 sets the public-records request procedure and generally requires a public body to respond within five working days. Section 2.2-3706 covers law-enforcement records and requires release of adult arrestee photographs and adult arrest identity and charge-status information when requested, subject to specified limits such as the felony-investigation jeopardy exception.
The Rockbridge County FOIA screenshot comes from the county page at co.rockbridge.va.us/555/County-FOIA-Rights-Responsibilities, which names Heidi Hoke as the county FOIA officer.
A request should identify existing records with reasonable specificity: full name, arrest date, arresting agency, Rockbridge Regional Jail, booking date if known, and a court or case number if known. County FOIA Officer Heidi Hoke can be reached at 540-463-1468 or hhoke@rockbridgecountyva.gov. For prosecutor-held records, the Commonwealth Attorney FOIA page identifies Dennis Ayers at 20 S. Randolph St., Suite 301, dayers@rockbridgecountyva.gov, 540-463-7337, and warns that criminal investigative files may be withheld.
